At our Clinic in Nairobi, we see many patients who have lost a substantial amount of weight. Many men and women have lost their weight by diet and exercise, over many months and years of weight loss diets, personal trainers and great effort.
Others have managed to lose 30-50 kg by doing bariatric surgery. Bariatric surgery is weight loss surgery where parts of the digestive system are operated in order for the overweight person to reduce their caloric intake and absorb less calories. Hence they will lose an amazing amount of weight, shedding the kilos by eating and absorbing less.
After the weight loss, our patients come to see us for tightening the loose skin, and lifting any sagging tissues – losing weight means that the stretched skin will collapse and because it might not be as elastic, will not fully redrape but will start sagging. Especially if there are stretchmarks, this can leave the patient unhappy and uncomfortable, especially with their clothes off.
