Breast reconstruction is achieved through several plastic surgery techniques that attempt to restore a breast to near normal shape, appearance and size following mastectomy.
Reconstructive breast surgery is a multi-disciplinary treatment, coordinated with cancer surgeons and cancer specialists (known as oncologists). Reconstructive surgery aims to rebuild the breast, either wholly or partially, to normalise the look of the breast and leave the patient with a symmetrical bust. It also aims to improve the patient’s body image and self-esteem, helping the process of recovery on a physical, emotional and psychological level. Breast reconstruction can be a complex procedure, often involving microsurgery techniques.
Dr Stasch was part of a multidisciplinary team of Specialists performing the first ever microsurgical breast reconstruction following breast amputation (mastectomy) for breast cancer using microsurgical free flap surgery (DIEP flap surgery) at the Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi. We have since performed this operation on more than 12 patients, allowing them to lead a normal life after surviving breast cancer:

Dr Tilman Stasch is vastly experienced in this highly specialized technique, which was never before performed in Eastern Africa, through his work in the UK and Germany, where he was part of the teams doing breast reconstructions on a daily basis.
Dr Stasch also is one of the leading breast reconstruction specialists using autologous fatgrafting, where the womans breasts are gradualy reconstructed using the minimally invasive lipofilling technique.
